Your Rights as You Prepare for Independence: What Care Leavers and Young Adults Should Know
At our supported accommodation service, we believe in empowering young people and preparing them for independent living. If you’re aged 16+ — whether you’re a care leaver, a looked-after young person, or a young adult needing extra support — knowing your rights is a key part of your journey.
Here are some important entitlements that can help you take confident steps toward independence:
🔹 1. Tailored Support for Your Journey
You’re not just a resident — you’re an individual. You have the right to a personalised support plan that reflects your goals, needs, and future aspirations. We’ll work with you to build confidence, life skills, and independence at your own pace.
🔹 2. A Safe and Stable Place to Live
You’re entitled to feel safe and supported. Our accommodation provides a structured, nurturing environment with 24/7 staff support — a space where you can grow emotionally and practically.
🔹 3. Support with Education, Employment & Training (EET)
You have the right to support in finding and accessing education, work, or training. We can help you explore your options, write your CV, and prepare for interviews — so you can build a future that works for you.
🔹 4. Access to a Personal Adviser (if you’re a care leaver)
If you’re a care leaver aged 16–25, you should have a Personal Adviser (PA) through your local authority. They can support you with housing, finances, health, and long-term planning.
🔹 5. Help with Housing and Benefits
You may be entitled to housing support or financial assistance, especially as a care leaver. Your key worker or PA can help you understand what you qualify for — from Housing Benefit to bursaries for further education.
🧭 Preparing for independence doesn’t mean doing it alone. We’re here to support you — step by step, decision by decision.
